Barrio Adds Sixth Location In Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Barrio is taking its tacos, tequila, and whiskey to the seaside community of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. After opening five Barrio restaurants throughout the Cleveland area since its inception in 2012, Barrio is opening its first restaurant out of state. Barrio Portsmouth will feature the same build-your-own taco concept, specialty cocktails, and craft beer selection.
The first Barrio restaurant was created in the historic Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio by Tommy Leneghan and Sean Fairbairn. In six short years, Barrio has become a favorite among the community, and has opened locations in Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, Willoughby, and downtown Cleveland. Barrio has received national praise as one of the “Top 10 Taco Stands in the US” by Gayot, and as the “Best Mexican Restaurant in the State of Ohio” by The Daily Meal.

Tommy and Sean are humbled by Barrio’s local success. They’re also excited to be expanding outside of the state of Ohio. “As we continue to grow, we’re committed to maintaining the same neighborhood feel as our Cleveland-based restaurants. We’re sourcing fresh, local ingredients, and working to build a beer list that includes local brews,” says Sean. The one-of-a-kind murals on the walls and metal work inside the space are being created by Barrio’s original artist Michael “Mac” McNamara.

Tommy and Sean are partnering with long-time New Hampshire residents, Maggie and Dan Osborn, to open Barrio Portsmouth. Maggie is also Tommy’s sister, and is looking forward to sharing her family’s business with her Portsmouth friends and family. “I know it will be a great addition to the community.”

Barrio Portsmouth is going into 3S Artspace at 319 Vaughan Street, and is expected to open this summer. The venue also houses a large, contemporary art gallery, and a flexible performance space that hosts musicians, film, and visual arts events. Barrio will attract visitors and locals alike, as well as provide event goers with tasty options before and after the shows.

Barrio is known for its custom-made tacos, tequila, and whiskey. The menu offers up endless build-your-own taco combinations with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. From the tasty tacos, to the Day of the Dead murals wrapping the walls, Barrio’s atmosphere, food, and people exude neighborhood.
